Our winter climbing instruction is tailored directly to your abilities and will cover what you need. Some examples of potential areas for focus may include:

- Weather and avalanche forecast interpretation, and use of the map
- Appropriate route selection
- Climbing techniques on snow, ice and mixed
- Winter climbing protection
- Use of the rope in ascent and descent

Our Winter Climbing course is targeted at providing you with the skills to get you out on the ice or snow — climbing safely and enjoying the brutal beauty of Scotland in winter. Instruction with us will give you the skills to assess the conditions, the terrain and the equipment to be safe while achieving your Winter mountain dreams.

What you’ll need for your Winter Climbing Course:

- three pairs of waterproof winter gloves
- ski goggles
- head torch
- day rucksack
- food and a hot drink
- B3 mountaineering boots*
- crampons*
- climbing axes*
*we can help you with hiring the boots, crampons and axes if you’re new to winter climbing and aren’t ready to buy your own.
We’ll provide everything else you’ll need for your day of climbing, including full safety gear, helmet, ropes, harness, maps and compasses.
